OMAHA, Neb., (December 2, 2015) – America First Investment Advisors (AFIA) announced today the celebration of their first year as an independent company. The five employees of the investment management and financial planning firm bought the company late last year from Burlington Capital Group. George Krauss, a managing director of Burlington, and his family are also key investors.
“It’s been a really busy, exciting year,” said Eric Ball, Chief Executive Officer. “After the buyout, we looked at every part of how we operate. Our investment philosophy stayed the same, but we’ve improved how we communicate with clients,” he said.
Highlights of the year include:
- A move from Downtown to the Regency One Building at 10050 Regency Circle. “This took some doing – there isn’t a lot of good office space available in Omaha. Our new location is centrally located and makes it easy to meet with clients,” said Ball.
- New branding and an overhaul of the company website. AFIA calls itself “An Investment Manager from the Old School.” Ball said this describes how they invest and the way they treat clients. “We buy shares of good, well-managed companies when prices are favorable. We do our own research. It’s a rational approach. People can understand what we do and why it makes sense. We aren’t a ‘flavor of the month’ kind of investment manager,” he said. Ball said they make it a point to speak with clients regularly. “Maintaining long-term relationships is important to us,” he said.
- A very well-received “Client Family Appreciation Event” at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium in October. Some 200 people attended the party, which featured animal ambassadors, a nighttime bat feeding and a behind-the scenes look at the new Giraffe Complex. “This was the best event we ever had,” Ball said. “Clients brought children and grandchildren. They all had a great time.”
What’s In Store for Next Year?
Ball said they plan to continue expanding their assets under management, which were $248 million at the end of September. “With our existing base of clients, new location and dedicated employee-owners, we have a great foundation to build on,” he said. The minimum size for new accounts is $300,000.
